Fred, Jack, and Bertha standing in the front yard of their Melrose home. This photo along with several others were probably taken to commemorate
the building of their new home upon their move to Melrose from Soap Gulch. They purchased this lot from Mr George W. Owens for 350.00 in 1900. This photo dates somewhere between 1900 to 1903 given the age of Fred.

This home still remains at Melrose today much like it was more than a century ago!!

William conducting business with the Hecla Consolidated Mining Company

Another letter written to Henry Knippenberg, General Manager of the Hecla Mining Company.

1884 Apr 29 - After a visit to Soap Gulch for the Butte Miner, a reporter noted that Albert Cline, Thomas McCale, Ed Harrison, W. Monahan, Al McDonald, W.E. Little and J.T. Street, the superintendent for the HCMC's iron ore mines, were all listed as living in Norwood. The mines were employing 14 men. Also mentioned in the article is Louis Des River, a miner at the head of Camp Creek. Downstream for his claim, C.A. Clayton has a stock ranch. James H. Mitdrill and Thomas Naughton are raising hay and stock while Mr. Chester is a dairy farmer in the area. A special thanks was given to Mr.. Stebbins, who resides in Soap Gulch.

Laid to Rest in Melrose, Montana are William E. Little Jr., Bertha, William Little Sr. and Sons, Elmer and Fred. This family marked the end of their lineage as Elmer and Fred never married, thus leaving anyone to carry on the family name.
