About me

 

My interest in family history began following my mother's passing in February 1999. Among the possessions she left to me were two old steamer trunks filled with photographs, documents, ledgers, and family albums. As a child, I had often wondered what treasures these trunks contained, but they remained off-limits to my curiosity. Years later, opening them became the beginning of an extraordinary journey—one that sparked a lifelong passion for Montana's history and for understanding my ancestors' role in its early development.

As I carefully examined the photographs, journals, ledgers, and family records, I discovered that many of my ancestors were among the early settlers who helped shape the Montana Territory. They were pioneers who faced immense hardships, enduring an unforgiving landscape while striving to build better lives for themselves and their families. Through perseverance, determination, and sacrifice, they contributed to the growth of communities that would eventually become part of the State of Montana when it achieved statehood in 1889. They were, in every sense, builders of the American frontier.

Researching their lives has allowed me to develop a deep personal connection with the past. Each discovery provides a greater appreciation for the courage, resilience, and character of those who came before us. For me, exploring Montana's early history is more than a hobby—it is an opportunity to step away from the pace of modern life and immerse myself in another era. Historic photographs, in particular, offer a remarkable glimpse into moments that would otherwise be lost to time. They serve as windows into the lives of the people who helped shape Montana's rich heritage, and each image tells a story waiting to be discovered and preserved.
